So what are some of the benefits??

Working for RAIS can be great and can be challenging.  I have lived in South Korea, Malawi, Kenya, Saudi, and the USA.  Over the years as a teacher, and specifically a teacher working abroad, I found out that there are positive things at every school and at every place there are also terrible things.  Life is what you make of it, and though RAIS schools are far from perfect, I have found that the overall benefits outweigh the headaches.  You will experience culture shock here, that is normal.  Yet, your attitude will always determine how successful you will be in Saudi or in any job abroad.

Okay, so here is the general rundown email that I try to send to all new teachers that gives some info about our school and about the general benefits:

Our schools are large K-12 international schools with 10 different branches throughout Saudi Arabia.  We have schools in Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Dammam/Khobar area. Our school sizes vary from 130 students to 1400 students and we are growing every year!

Our school uses the American Common Core standards as a guide, and we teach with the Pearson curriculum textbooks (Reading Street, Interactive Science, Envisions Math).  We have teachers from the USA, South Africa, the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Middle East. 

Schools in Saudi are segregated into male and female campuses at 4th grade.  Students in Kindergarten -3rd grade are all on the female campus. (Grades 1-3 have separate classes for girls and boys.)  Grades 4th-12th are located on either on the male or female campus, depending on the student's gender. 

Our teachers are at school from 7 a.m. to about 3 p.m. each day, with only about 4 hours of student contact time each day.  The rest of the day the teachers can work on planning. We team our teachers up with grade level teachers and work collaboratively to develop lesson plans, curriculum pacing guides, and parent plans.  Additionally, we offer our teachers PD training and in house seminars that focus on character education and modern teaching practices.
